Saskatchewan’s Economic Growth Slowest in Western Canada http://www.teamfisher.com/blogs/norm_fisher/archive/2008/04/30/saskatchewan-economy-underperforms-on-expectations.aspx  At 2.8% GDP growth, Saskatchewan was only 0.1% above national average, and below the Western Canadian Provinces GDP growth of between 3.1 to 3.3%.  This was far below prior growth forecasts of 4 to 4.8% from private sector economists.  However, Doug Elliott pointed out Statistics Canada (this data) [...]

Mile high building coming

( Misc )

A $5 billion dollar building will be 2X the size of the dubai tower and 3X the size of the CN tower and obviously the world’s new tallest building.  Don’t believe us? http://www.therealestatebloggers.com/2008/03/

Canada’s Best Places to Live

( Misc andSchool )

Saskatoon comes in 16 th, but back when the average house sold for $175,000.  Assuming we’ve dropped a few spots with house prices doubling.  http://www.canadianbusiness.com/rankings/bestplacestolive/list.jsp And really, 16 th isn’t that good.  Especially when we’re already up to #2 in violent crime according to Stats Canada.  Interesting info about a bunch of different Canadian cities anyway.

Tories tried to scam tax payer money

( Misc )

Hear about the police raid on Conservative party head quarters?  “It also alleges that 67 Tory candidates “improperly” sought taxpayer-funded rebates on expenses they did not incur.”  That’s right, the Torys actually tried to take your money, at least Liberals only took money from private individuals in the form of bribes! http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/TopStories/ContentPosting.aspx?feedname=CTV-TOPSTORIES_V2&showbyline=True&newsitemid=CTVNews%2f20080420%2felections_canada_tories_080420

Sales of existing homes cooled in almost all major markets – including Toronto, [...]

Corner Gas – Next season to be last

( Misc )

Corner Gas will have its 6 th and final season, 2008-2009.  Details at http://www.cornergas.com/home/#1 .  Assuming some Brent Butt reality show is in the works.  Details not available anywhere and are made up.  He’s probably not good enough looking for a reality show anyway.

Saskatoon Houses More Expensive Than Edmonton

( Misc andSchool )

$30,000 more for 2 story home, $10,000 more for bungalow in Saskatoon than Edmonton.  Average wages higher in Alberta than Saskatchwan … according to a Royal LePage survey.  Apparently move to Edmonton, avoid 8% property tax increase, save on house prices AND get paid more.  I cannot yet find this story referenced elsewhere on line, but [...]

Lukiwski (Conservative MP) on Tape gay bashing

( Misc andSchool )

We all knew Conservatives don’t like gay people … who knew they didn’t like Ukrainians? http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national/story.html?id=889fb6af-37c5-436a-840a-77c95a42ae14 or ctv.ca I think the bigger question, is who is surprised to see this coming from the federal Conservatives?  At least Brad Wall only makes fun of the way Ukrainians talk.  At least some others have finally taken some responsibility [...]
